* As the ship moves forward, it creates relative motion with the still water, forming a water flow that enters the hull from the bow. This flow first enters the primary reaction zone, where coagulation occurs. It then enters the secondary reaction zone, where flocs further aggregate and enlarge. Next, it enters the contact zone, where flocs and micro/nano-sized bubbles adhere together through electrostatic adsorption, forming "foam-flocs" with an apparent density less than water. These foam-flocs float on the surface, forming scum, while the treated water separates from the hull at the bottom of the separation zone and enters the water body. As the ship moves forward, the inclined surface of the scum hopper at the rear of the separation zone acts like a shovel, collecting the scum from the upper part of the separation zone. A scraper then scrapes the scum from the inclined surface of the scum hopper into the collection hopper. Once the scum hopper is full, it can be pumped away from the shore.
